Pat Summitt Biography and Wiki: Pat Summitt was born on June 14, 1952 in Clarksville, Tennessee, the daughter of Richard and Hazel Albright Head. She had four siblings: older brothers Tommy, Charles and Kenneth, and a younger sister, Linda. She married R. B. Summitt in 1980; the two filed for divorce in 2007. They have one son, Ross Tyler Summitt. In 2009, the Sporting News placed her at number 11 on its list of the 50 Greatest Coaches of All Time in all sports; she was the only woman on the list.
Pat Summitt was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. She received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2012 ESPY Awards. Summitt was widely reckoned as one of the toughest coaches in college basketball history, men’s or women’s. She was best known for giving her players an icy stare in response to poor play.
During her time, Tennessee never failed to reach the NCAA tournament, never received a seed lower than No. 5 and reached 18 Final Fours.
