Cricket: Rohit Sharma Scored First Century As An Opener In Test Cricket

Rohit Sharma scored his first century as an opener in Test cricket, bringing India to a strong position in the first match against South Africa at the ACA-VDCA Stadium here on Wednesday.

In the first match of the three Test matches series, India have scored 202 runs without losing any wickets. Due to the rain, the umpires decided to end the second session ahead of time.

Rohit 115 and Mayank Agarwal are at the crease after scoring 84 runs.

In the second season, both batsmen scored fast. Meanwhile, Rohit also scored the fourth century of his Test career. He has hit five sixes and 12 fours in 174 balls so far. Mayank has hit two sixes and 11 fours so far.

Both batsmen are opening the innings for the first time in India. This is Rohit’s first Test match as an opener. He used to bat in the middle order in Tests for the Indian team till now.

Earlier, India had scored 91 runs without losing any wicket till lunch.

The captain of the hosts, Virat Kohli, decided to bat first after winning the toss. Both the openers justified the captain’s decision and batted with restraint and did not lose his wicket.

Both initially tested the bowlers and then played their shots.

South Africa’s team is also starting their ICC Test Championship campaign with this match. The eyes of both the teams will be on winning the match and gaining an edge. The three-match T20 series between India and South Africa was equal to 1-1.
